Monday

Sent from my iPadMonday

The days are all jumbled together and I had to ask someone what day we were on. This morning we went straight to the orphanage and had service. There's this little boy Matthew that we met the first day in Kampala. He was with bishop and is an orphan from the orphanage. We were told that he was sad and lonely so mama bishop took his with  her for a few days. He is back at the orphanage and let me just tell you, ya boy can dance. Haha. I have video of him I hope I can show you. It's great! Lol.
Service was really good. They ( including the children) started singing Jesus loves me in Lugandan and the spirit of god fell I that place. The children worship to passionately. Imagine 3-8 year olds weeping with eyes squinted and closed, arms lifted high praying to Jesus. Breathtaking.
I didn't stay in the service for long because I went help Ronnie and mandy with medical assessments. This made me see things in a while new way. Before they  were children with beautiful faces. Today they still have beautiful faces but I have seen for myself that some of those smiles cover great physical pain. I saw everything from what we believe was AIDS to earache (due to large cysts ) and cellulitis.  One little baby (about 6 mos) hadn't had a bowel movement in a month.  Many many children have irregular heart beats. One little girls heart would stop beating for 2 or three seconds and then start again.   Just about all the children have worms in their bellys. I was able to listen to them with a stethoscope. It sounds like a plastic bag being crumpled. One lady came to see us and she had huge tumor on her neck. Another had a large lump in her breast which is probably cancer. She is omly 21 with a 3 mos old. The heart wrenching part of it is that there is absolutely no medical help to treat these issues. Mothers would bring their babies and just look at us desperately wanting someone to just help their child ( these women are from surrounding village). I've always heard these stories but seeing them and being the one they ask for help from makes it real. The need to overwhelming but I just remember that anything is possible with god and that although I'm only one, he can use me and I'm part of a group of people that can change these children's lives. I'm willing to be used however he wants me to be used.

We again ate at the bishops house  and the. Went back to the orphanage to start playing with the kids. We weren't playing long before it started pouring. It was like hurricane weather. We all ran to the bus to wait it out and the kids went into the church for worship. ( btw they have church basically all day)   We were on the bus when I realized, " why are we inhere and not there?"  So after convincing the bishops brother that it was ok to go ( he didn't want me to get wet) I ran to the sanctuary. The kids were jumping and laughing in the dark to music and drums and singing. It was awesome. We jumped in the middle of the, and danced our hearts out. THE BEST MOMENT OF THE TRIP!  We danced for about 40 min or so. Only a few of us were in there but we had so much fun. The kids imitate everything you do so I had a lot of fun making funny faces and dance moves and the imitated each one. The kids just want to get any attention from us. They soak it up.

I'm blogging in an Indian restaurant next to our hotel. We are sitting here with everyone from the trip talking about our families and today. I just had chicken friend rice which was delicious and Goat! Yes, I ate goat! It's not horrible but not something I would order or eat again. We have some good pics of me shay Ashley and Ronnie eating it for the first time. Lol
Tomorrow we are going back to the orphanage and playing with the kids again. We are also going to baptize about 120 of the children!  I can not wait for that.

Till next time!
Goon night from Africa :)

What are we listening to?

I recently purchased this book called Women of the Word which was recommended to me by a friend.  It's a year long devotional of 52 women in the Bible.  I'm on week one and God is already using it to teach me.  EVE WHAT GOD SAID:  You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. WHAT EVE TOLD THE ENEMY GOD SAID:  We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, "You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and  you must not touch it,  or you will die." WHAT THE ENEMY TOLD EVE:  You will not certainly die,  for God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. First -  Eve added to God's word. Second - so did the enemy. Seeing this leads me to ask two questions: 1. How often do I add to God's word based off o

The big T

So I guess I've decided to keep going with this blog. Surprisingly, I'm finding that I like writing on this thing. My thoughts are mainly for me but maybe someone might feel the same about things and it helps to know you're not alone sometimes :) (At least for me it does) Ill try to keep it shorter than my blog from Africa though lol. So the big T. Wonder what that is? Transition. Spiritual transition. For me this word makes me want to cringe and be excited at the same time. My life has been in this faze for over a year now and it feels as though the emotions of it all are increasing daily. It's a mixture of excitement, wonder, and frustration all at once. Now I know frustration isn't what   god gives us but I've been feeling it. It's like I'm standing at the edge of the cliff wanting to jump, not sure what Im jumping into, but ready and not afraid, yet someone is holding my shirt and saying not yet. There's two things pulling me; knowing that t

Great Expectations

In four days I will be leaving for my second trip to Uganda.  This year is so different from last year.  I don't understand it but I'm more anxious this year than last year. (A good anxious though.)  Maybe it's because I know what I'm going into and I'm just so ready to get back to it.  I also feel like this is very different…..spiritually.  I know that my experiences will be very different from last year.  I have a few things that I want to take care of for Refuge so I'm going to work while I'm there.  But spiritually, this trip is on a whole other level.  God has been calling me to prayer for the children, Bishop and his family, the orphanage, and the people of Uganda more and more as we approach the day to leave.  I know there is a special calling on this trip---God's going to show up in a mighty way!  I feel like we not only have a physical mission, but that this trip's focus is more on a spiritual mission.  Please pray for us while we are there.
